Rhone Ranger Tasting 2000

CONCLUSION

Well, there's really not too much to be disappointed about - we'll see a lot of these folks down in Paso Robles at Hospice du Rhone in just a couple of months, and will bring you, as they say "gavel to gavel coverage" by our crack team of wine event correspondents. This tasting has taken on almost ZAP-like proportions in size.  I'm going to have to plan ahead for next year in order to get my tasting done before the public is admitted, or perhaps these folks will have to move to the Festival Pavilion next door where they can have a little bit more room. A suggestion to those of you were planning to attend this event next year: download a program from their WebSite or obtain one by mail, and plan your tasting strategy ahead of time - otherwise you'll get bogged down in traffic and chances are you will not get to taste all of the wines that you're interested in here. Nevertheless, this continues to be a great event, especially with the food purveyors providing tastes that match well with the wines. I also enjoyed seeing several wine board members.

I'll look for you here again next year.

Wine of the Day - Ridge Vineyards 1997 Grenache Lytton Estate - extraordinary balance and elegance - a very classy wine.

Winery of the Day - McCrea Cellars - a uniformly impressive lineup from these very nice folks - perfect fruit and clean winemaking - look for great things from this new producer.
