I think these varietals have a bright future in California. They certainly are not Italian wines, but they are not meant to be. Comparisons would be futile, and may even interfere with the enjoyment of the wine. Perhaps it's better to enjoy each on its own terms, eh?

Wine of the Day - for me, there was no other choice: Showket. I enjoyed many of the others I tasted - Acorn, Chappellet, Pepi - but this wine stood a little bit taller. Loads of fruit, wonderful intensity, great structure - Its got everything I look for in this kind of wine.
